Making Art from Your Work of Art
Details
1. Make at least four artworks with the same process but using different media.
2. Using a viewfinder, complete two separate artworks of what you consider to be the single most important section of this particular artwork using any artmaking process. One of these two artworks should be done in a color medium. The other artwork should be done in a black/white medium.
3. Using the primary theme of the artwork, which you identified in Component 8, item 10, make a work of art based on how you interpret this theme. What does this theme mean to you, and how might you interpret this theme through this artmaking process? This artwork is done in your choice of medium.
4. As has been shown through this series of assignments, quite often a work of art becomes the motivation for making another work of art. When an artist borrows images or symbols directly from another artwork and includes clear (or sometimes obscure) references to an existing work of art in her/his own artwork, we refer to this as “appropriation.” Borrowing between artists is not limited to the world of fine art. Appropriation is found in many visual forms, including advertising, political cartoons, graffiti, calendars, album covers, and comic books. With this in mind, include at least one example of an appropriation you make based on your selected work of art. This appropriation can take a variety of forms and serve a variety of purposes. For example, the appropriate might fit within traditional notions of fine art, or be a work of advertisement for a particular product or event, political propaganda, or humor. Computer generated images are fine and encouraged for this section of Component 9.
