Teaching Art from Your Work of Art
· Begin with the students closing their eyes and listening to the instrumental song, “Falling Awake,” by Schpongle. Play the song a second time and have them draw subjectively what they feel. Have them draw into 4x4 squares, 4x with the song. Then assign for them to choose an appropriate song that that want to do this same process this. They will choose 1 of their 4 explorations to make larger (final artwork). Keeping in mind biomorphic abstraction techniques used by Miro in this painting.
· Have the students photograph images of random scenes from their life. Have them take at least 5 pictures. From these images the students will then sketch an abstracted version of the image. They will choose on of the sketches to make into a larger piece.
· The class as a whole could possibly do a mural. Thinking large-scale (because Miro’s painting is very large). Have them take photographs from their lives, have them make sketches of the subjects in their photos in an abstract/ biomorphic way. As a class we will decide what elements we want to exhibit on the mural… introduction to collaboration. and relevance to their current lives
· Have them make abstract/biomorphic collages from nature and fashion magazines, they will cut out random images, shapes, colors, that end up making a humanistic figure.
